American leaders staging English presentation contest

The U.S. Consulate Naha and the American Chamber of Commerce Okinawa are making final preparations for an English Language PowerPoint Presentation Contest on September 22nd.

The contest is open to 15 junior high and high schools throughout Okinawa, with each school selecting one student to develop a five-minute PowerPoint in English about Washington D.C., Illinois, New Jersey, Washington, California, Texas, Hawaii or Guam. The presentations and judging will be held from 10 a.m. ~ noon on Saturday the 22nd at the Kafuu resort in Onna Village. An awards ceremony at 1:30 p.m. will follow the luncheon.

First prize is two round-trip tickets to Guam donated by United Airlines. Second place prize will be a 3rd generation 64GB iPad, and third prize is a 3rd generation 32GB ipad, both donated by the U.S. Consulate General Naha.

Hollywood actor Shin Koyamada will be one of the judges for the event. Koyamada has appeared in films such as “The Last Samurai” with Tom Cruise. Additional judges will be drawn from the U.S. Consulate Naha, the American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa, the Okinawa Prefectural Government, Kafuu Resort and United Airlines.

Shin Koyamada will be visiting Okinawa to promote the SKF Foundation. The SKF Foundation raised funds for the March 2011 Tohoku Earthquake and Tsunami victims. The foundation also promotes international studies and cross cultural exchange programs in the United States.
