Army PFC injured when his driving buddy crashes car

A 20-year-old Army Private First Class stationed at Kadena Air Base suffered serious injuries when his driving partner crashed his car into a guardrail on Highway 58 in Onna Village’s Nakama district late Saturday night.

The soldier in the passenger seat suffered head and waist injuries, as well as a broken left leg.  He is hospitalized.

The driver, also assigned at Kadena, Manly Zachary Daniel, was not injured.  Ishikawa Police say Daniels’ breath tested at three times the standard permissible alcohol level.  They’re investigating charging him with violation of the Road Traffic Law drunk driving.

Daniel, according to police, was driving at a high rate of speed from Seragaki district of Onna Village, heading for Nago City, when he lost control of the car, sending it to the opposite lane where it crashed into the guard rail and street light.  Daniels told police “We drank beer in the base and wend driving, and caused the accident.”
