Man’s body found floating in Aja River

Urasoe City Police are investigating the discovery of a body floating in the Aja River in the city’s Inanse district as possibly an accident or a crime.

The body was spotted by a resident, floating in a prone position, about 1:30 p.m. Sunday.  A fire station rescue team sent to the scene confirmed the man was dead.  There was no identification on the body, and officials say there was little identifying information.  Urasoe Police are asking for help from the public to discover the man’s identity.

The man is about 165cm tall, appears 50-70 years of age, and was wearing a navy blue jersey and slacks, and had on black sports shoes.  A judicial autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.  Officials say the relationship between the man’s death and typhoon Sanba is not known.  Urasoe Police are investigating the case both as a crime and as an accident.
