Missing snorkeler’s body found off Ishigaki coast

The body of a 29-year-old Naha City company employee swept away by winds from Typhoon Sangda has been recovered .

Daisuke Fukuda had been in Ishigaki snorkeling with friends Sunday when he was swept away shortly after 3 p.m. A strong wind and high wave advisory had been in effect at the time, as Typhoon Sangda approached.  Fukuda’s body was found offshore, southwest of where he was last seen, on Monday.  He had been snorkeling near a reef 200~300 meters from Yonehara seashore when he was engulfed.

The Ishigaki Coast Guard Office sent a patrol boat to search the area. The Coast Guard says a passerby had observed the scene and noticed Fukuda floundering in the high waves.  Fukuda had gone to Ishigaki from Naha on Saturday and was wearing a wetsuit, mask and fins when he was swept away.
