JGSDF Festival slated for Saturday

Young visitors enjoy a ride in a JGSDF vehicle.

Japan Ground Self Defense Force Naha Station will have an open house this Saturday from 8;15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The festival marks the 40th anniversary of the JGSDF Naha Station that was established in 1972 after Okinawa’s reversion to Japan after the U.S. occupation since the WWII.

The festival features a display of JGSDF vehicles and equipment, a parade, Eisa performance by Sefl Defense Force personnel, demonstrations of JGSDF training and music performance by JGSDF Band.

Photo opportunities abound.

A limited number of helicopter rides are offered to the public, and slots for the rides are determined by drawings at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the venue.

The youngest visitors will enjoy their own kiddie corner all day long.
