Shipping company staff reported to police and fire department that “There’s a man floating in the ocean” at Sarahama Port in Irabu Island in Miyako-jima City in the morning of Nov. 17.

The fire department rescue crew responding to the report found the man floating, and recovered him, but the man was already dead.

According to Miyakojima Police, the dead man was identified as a 58-year-old city hall worker.

Police are still investigating the circumstances how the man ended up in the water.
