Computer glitch in Naha City Office

A malfunction occurred Monday morning in a Naha City network server that controls working information at the Naha City Office, so the staff could not access their computers.

Because of the malfunction, the city office was not able to issue official resident certificates or registration certificates of seal at counters. The computers were down from the start of the business at 8:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.  when the service was restored.

The computers at all three satellite city offices in Shuri, Mawashi and Oroku were also affected.  However, no data loss was reported.

Naha City announced about the trouble to visitors over the office’s public addressing system, and posted an apology on their homepage.

According to Naha City Information Measures Division, a staff tried to turn the systemon at 7:30 a.m., but the server would not start, and the trouble was detected.

Naha City officials say the possibility of a cyber attack from outside is low. The division is investigating the cause of the trouble in order to prevent such incidents in the future.
