Quantas expands direct flights to Tokyo

Australia’s flag carrier is extending its reach to Tokyo-Haneda Airport as part of a new alliance with Dubai-based Emirates airline.

Quantas is planning new routes to Beijing, Seoul, Mumbai, Delhi and Tokyo-Haneda.  The Australian carrier, which is working to beef up struggling international operations with the new routes, as well as beefed up flights to Hong Kong and Singapore.  Simon Hickey, chief executive for Quantas, says Asia is a key pillar of the company’s future.

“The number of dedicated seats on Quantas services to Hong Kong and Singapore is increasing significantly,” he says, “because capacity previously set aside for Europe-bound customers via these hubs can be freed up.”  Hickey explains “the joint Quantas-Emirates network into Asia gives our customers a fresh set of options.  Starting March 31st, arrival times into Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore will be pushed forward three hours to enhance onward connections.”

Kuala Lumpur will be added to a destination soon, he says, noting “the maturing Jetstar network gives travelers anoher set of alternatives once they land in Asia.  The other new destinations, including Tokyo-Haneda, are likely in 2016.
