It’s time again to dust off superhero capes and Vulcan ears, and recharge lightsabers — it’s time to meet down at the Hall of Justice, or in this case the Camp Foster Community Center, where MCCS Libraries’ Comic Con Okinawa takes place on May 4. It’s a gathering of those daring to go where few men and women have gone before, offering a fantasy fortress to examine all things relating to science fiction and fantasy comic books, graphic novels and movies.

At the 3^rd Annual Comic Con Okinawa, be prepared for a day of games and graphic novels, movies and monsters, and, of course, fun and prizes. On May 4, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., a little slice of geek heaven will be right here at the Camp Foster Community Center.

As in Comic Cons past, there will be no shortage of exciting activities for all ages. Craft stations will include custom hero mask-making, comic page designing and coloring pages for our youngest Whovians, Jedi and superheroes. There will be face paint and zombification stations for those looking

for some last minute cosplay. There are art lessons for kids and adults, as well as published local special guests sharing their knowledge and experience. Be a part of the discussions on the comic book film industry; the history of comics; real world super powers; the latest in young adult literature and movies; and much more. If gaming is more your style there is a wide array of tabletop and video game stations. Movies will be shown, including industry film clips.

Along with the classic Comic Con Okinawa offerings, there are some exciting new features this year. Jump on a broomstick and learn the basics of Muggle Quidditch. Brooms will be provided and rules will be explained for any muggle newcomers. If you’re itching to purchase some great comics, games, memorabilia or more, AAFES will be there with goodies galore, and the MCCS team will be there with food to satisfy a heroic-sized hunger.

As always, Comic Con Okinawa closes with the cosplay contest. Before they can ask “who was that masked man,” assemble your Avengers outfit or break out your Harry Potter robe from Halloween. All family-friendly costumes are welcome. Contest sign-ups will be on-site, with prizes awarded for child, teen, adult and group categories. Winners will be determined by audience applause, so bring your cheering squad with you.
