2013 Hagoromo Port Festival looking for few good anglers

While the fishermen aim to catch the big ones, smaller fish count, too.

Okinawa’s most prestigious fishing festival is only a month away, but the Ginowan City Tourism Promotion Association is still accepting applications for fishing teams to participate.

While the anglers are vying for the big ones, the rest of the folks enjoy a beach party and variety of entertainment back in Ginowan Marina.

Ginowan Marina’s the starting venue for the June 30th Hagoromo Port Festival, but the deadline for participating is Friday, June 14th.  The registration fee is ¥12,000 per person for an eight-person team, with everything from insurance, boat charter fees and food included.  The fishing tournament begins at 6 a.m., and anglers have until late afternoon to bring home the goods.

This is the greatest offshore angling convention in Okinawa Prefecture.

In this year’s tournament, with Ginowan Marina as a base, the fishing grounds will be off the Kerama islands and the sea near Iejima. The anglers compete aiming to catch large-size fish of various kinds using hook, line, sinker and bait.

At the Ginowan Marina, many events such as a ukulele beach party, and marine leisure experiences are scheduled for families and guests.
