Torii to celebrate holiday with Jazz & Salsa Festivale

American Independence Day is going to be a festive three-day splash at Torii Beach, asArmy Morale, Welfare and Recreation turns America’s birthday into a Jazz & Salsa Festivale.

Nothing’s better than the beach, says Army MWR, for three days of music, motorcycles, and plain ‘ol holiday good spirits.   The activities all take place at Torii Beach.  Taxi and Daiko services are available all three days.  The Jazz & Salsa Festival is an Open Post Event, with fireworks Thursday at 7:50 p.m. and Saturday at 9 p.m.

Thursday’s opening festivities are at 2:30 p.m. with a motorcycle rodeo and the Victory Belles, capped at 4 p.m. with the Best Beach Body.  Oldies take the heat off at  5 p.m., followed by the Best Beach Body Finals at 5:45 p.m.  Music through the evening is classic rock coming from Crystal Heart.

Friday’s festival runs 5 p.m. ~ 11 p.m., with Kachimba kicking things off with music, then music and dance lessons.  Flamenco and Samba follow, with Andarginha performing at 7:40 p.m. More dance performances and dance lessons follows, with Kachimba DX capping the evening on stage at 9 p.m.

Jazz OJA opens up Sunday from 5 p.m. ~ 11 p.m., with the Okinawa Jazz Association providing a variety of entertainers through the early evening.  The Misato Wind Ensemble performs at 8:15 p.m. and Jazz OJA by the Okinawa Jazz Association roars back for more music after the 9 p.m. fireworks.

No personal alcoholic beverages, food, glass, pets or canopies are permitted on Torii Beach. Admission is free and is open to the entire community.
