Chatan’s 34th Eisa Festival welcomes visitors

Sunday’s Chatan Eisa continues until 9 p.m.

Chatan Town’s 34th Eisa Festival is taking place Sunday, and traditionally costumed dancers will perform for visitors from across the island.

Enthusiasm of Chatan dancers is as high as anywhere.

The festival is taking place at Kuwae Comprehensive Ground, next to the Nirai Center in Chatan, 440 Kuwae.  The festival kicks off at 4:30 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m.  Admission is free.

Spectators are treated to the full feeling and lively motion of the dancers. The annual festival is performed as a tribute to traditional performing arts of the area. The “Kachashi”, in which everyone can join in, will be carried out at the end of the festival. This is a typical Okinawan summer Eisa festival; very local and very traditional.

As one of the most famous Eisa festivals in Okinawa, all dancers perform wearing the Okinawan traditional uniform of Eisa. This is a nice way to enjoy the night heralding the end of summer with family, friends, or a sweetheart.
