Okinawa Police arrested 39-year-old Leon Higa, a musician living in Kitanakagusuku, on Aug. 7, on suspicion of hitting a 72-year-old man with the car he was driving and the leaving the scene of the accident.

Investigators say the 72-years-old had been lying down on the road in the Kishaba district of Kitanakagusku about at midnight on July 27th. They suspect Higa hit the man on the way home from Okinawa City, and didn’t stop to aid the victim but ran away instead.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

When questioned Higa admitted that he knows he drove over something on the road, but didn’t recognize that is was a human and didn’t bother to stop to check.
