Ruling BJL champs to get new coach

The Yokohama B-Corsairs, who snared the Basketball Japan League championship in only its second year in existence, has promoted its assistant coach to the top spot.

Michael Katsuhisa, who has been the assistant coach, is now the second coach in the team’s short history.  He replaces Reggie Geary, who led Yokohama to the 2012-2013 league championship.

Geary has already parted ways with the Yokohama team, and is now the head coach for the Chiba Jets.  Geary’s move away from Yokohama, said to have been at odds with his employers over pay issues, had been rumored to be on the verge of taking the Chiba spot before it was announced late last week.  The 39-year-old Geary, a former NBA guard, is to guide the Jets, who’ve jumped to the former Japan Basketball League, now called the National Basketball League.

The 30-year-old Katsuhisa was an Osaka Evessa player in the 2009-2011 seasons before shedding the uniform to take the assistant coach slot.  He’s attended Nishimachi International School in Tokyo, and prior to that, Bellevue, Washington.
