Academic Conference on Endangered Languages in Okinawa

The “18th Academic Conference on Endangered Languages” is scheduled to be held in Okinawa from Sep. 7th through 10th. The purpose of the international academic conference is to study languages, which are at the risk of extinction, and design activities to help utilize and record such languages. This will be the first time the conference is held in Japan.

Professor Patrick Heinrich of Dokkyo University, and a member of this academic conference, strongly emphasizes, “It makes much sense for the conference to take place in Okinawa where the Ryukyuan language is also registered as an endangered language.”
