Woodcraft on display at Plaza House through weekend

Okinawa Woody Fair showcases everything that is made of wood in Okinawa from decorations to furniture.

Okinawa is not known exactly for its vast forests and timber production, but there are woodworking craftsmen on the island who are putting the results of their labors on display at the Okinawa Woody Fair that runs from today through Sunday at Plaza House Shopping Center Fair Mall.

“Nurture your five senses with Okinawan made wooden furniture and items!” is the exhibition theme for this 18th annual exhibition. Admission is free for the exhibition on all three floors of the Plaza House atrium. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on all four days.

The exhibition is open through Sunday.

Exhibition organizers explain they want Okinawan citizens to experience, hands-on, the various products local craftsmen make using wood. They explain that “living with items made of natural wood gives you a rich and calm feeling like nothing else. At the same time, with our products we contribute to a better living environment as well.”

Many unique handmade wood pieces are on display. Of course, everything is on sale for purchase. Saturday, there is a parent and child workshop where visitors are able to make one-of-a-kind pairs of chopsticks or stilts.

Free plants are being handed out to visitors on all four days of the exhibition.
