Chamber Orchestra “io” stages first concert of 2014

The first 2014 concert of “io” features music of Verdi, Mascagni and Rimsky-Korsakov.

Friends of classical music are in for a treat when the Ryukyu Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra “io” presents its next concert on Feb. 9th at Okinawa Convention Center, under the baton of George Tchitchinadze.

The program consists of compositions by Giuseppe Verdi, Pietro Mascagni and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The pieces are Overture & “Va, pensier, sull’ ali dorate” from opera Nabucco by Verdi; Intermezzo and the Chorus of Easter from opera Cavalleria Rusticana by Mascagni; and Scheherazade op. 35 by Rimsky-Korsakov.

This is the first concert of the Ryukyu Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra “io” of 2014. The Principal Conductor of this concert is George Tchitchinadze who is very highly regarded in Europe, and regularly tours the world to conduct some of the most famous orchestras. The Feb. 9 concert will be his first time on Okinawa.

For this performance, Orquestra “io” features some 80 musicians who are teamed up with another 100 singers of the chorus “Amici.”

The Sunday, Feb. 9 concert starts at 4 p.m. with doors opening 30 minutes earlier. Tickets for reserved seats are ¥6,000. Unreserved seat tickets cost ¥4,000, and tickets for high school students and younger are ¥2,500. Advance tickets are available at FamilyMart e+, Ryubo Department Store, Bunkyo Harmony Naha and Fukuhara Music Store.
