Exhibition showcases art by seniors

Kariyushi Art Exhibition is focusing on works by seniors.

Kariyushi Art Exhibition, currently open at Okinawa Prefectural Museum and Art Museum in Omoromachi, Naha, is showcasing art works created by senior citizens,

Okinawa Social Welfare Council is sponsoring the event that is designed to give a chance to senior citizens over 60 years of age to display their works of art, and encourage them to have a more healthy and lively lifestyle.

On display will be artworks in six categories; Japanese-style painting, oil painting, sculpture, craft, calligraphy and photography. None of the participants is professional. A panel of judges evaluates the works and picks the best piece. The winner will be awarded on the 8th at the beginning of the exhibition.

The exhibition that is open through Jan. 13th takes place in the art museum’s Exhibition Gallery 1 and 2, and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
