According to Japan’s Defense Ministry, Okinawa has been selected to host a meeting of senior defense officials from ASEAN nations to be held on Feb. 18.

This will be the first time the meeting, the fifth since they began, will be held outside Tokyo. The venue of the meeting will be Okinawa Convention Center in Ginowan, according to the ministry’s announcement that was made on Tuesday.

Japanese Vice Defense Minister Masanori Nishi will chair the sub-cabinet level meeting that will aim to boost the participant nation’s defense capabilities and cooperation in disaster management.
