Prosecutors are demanding a six-year jail term for a 20-year-old university student that ran over two persons on a sidewalk while drunk, killing one and injuring the other in November.

In the accident a 48-year-old government employee died and a 58-year-old college professor was slightly injured when Kazumasa Hiroshi lost control of his car and plowed into the two pedestrians on the sidewalk. Hiroshi then ran away from the scene but was caught shortly afterwards. He was found to have twice the legal limit of alcohol in his breath.

Prosecutors in his trial at Naha District Court argued that, “Under the circumstances, there is no room to consider leniency,” and demanded six years of jail time. The court will hand down the sentence Feb. 5th
