German cruise ship “Deutschland” made its first ever visit to Ishigaki, Feb. 3rd. Upon the ship’s arrival, Ishigaki City Office Tourism Office officials greeted the ship and its 389 passengers and held a welcome ceremony at Ishigaki Port.

Last year, Ishigaki recorded the highest number of visitors ever, a total of 940,000, of which 8,700 came on cruise ships. More cruise ships are scheduled to stop at Ishigaki this year, and expectations among tour operators and city officials are high.

Deutschland Captain Andreas Gruish said, “Yaeyama is an excellent city with many places to see. Next time we are here, I promise to make our stay longer.”
