Okinawa hotel business expects bright future

According to the Okinawa Hotel Association the average occupation rate in its 37 member facilities on Okinawa in 2013 was 76.4%, a 4.8% increase from previous year, and at the same level as it had been before the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy.

Okinawa Hotel Association Chairman Choukei Taira is optimistic about the future of the hotel business in Okinawa. “With the scheduled construction of the second runway at Naha Airport, the number of visitors is sure to increase, which gives Okinawa very high potential. At the same time, the existing hotels are getting old, giving advantage to new hotels,” Taira said.
