7-Eleven mulls opening shop in Okinawa

Japan’s largest convenience store chain 7-Eleven that has currently 16,450 stores throughout Japan, except in Okinawa, is reportedly once again considering opening shops in the prefecture.

Currently, the number of convenience stores in Okinawa prefecture is just over 500, which, according to local operators, is a “proper number.” FamilyMart, Lawson and Coco dominate Okinawan convenience store business.

Should 7-Eleven open shops in the prefecture, it would surely stir up tension within Okinawa’s convenience store operators.
