Hagoromo Cup Festival fishing tournament set for June 22nd

The June 22nd Hagoromo Cup is Okinawa’s largest open water fishing tournament, in which anyone can try his or her luck with the big ones.

The biggest open water fishing tournament of the year, the 2014 Hagoromo Cup Festival, is set for June 22nd from Ginowan Marina.

While the anglers vie for the big ones on the ocean, Johnny Ginowan & Wale Wale entertain ashore.

Anglers will begin competition that Sunday at 7 a.m., having until 6:30 p.m. to haul in the elusive big one that will win the prizes.  Fishermen will ply the waters ranging from the Kerama  Islands to the shores near Ie Island. On-shore festival events begin at the Ginowan Marina at 9 a.m.

The Hagoromo Cup Festival organizers are now accepting applications for the tournament.  All participants must complete an entry form and submit a ¥12,000 per person entry fee.  This year’s competition is limited to 200 participants. Festival activities at the Ginowan Port Marine will include a musical stage featuring live performances by Johnny Ginowan & WALEWALE, ukulele and hula dance, and also free marine leisure experiences.
