Reclusive jazz bassist to perform in Okinawa

Bass player and composer Ander Jormin will perform at Ginoza Culture Center Garamand Hall, Saturday.

Swedish bass player and composer Anders Jormin is in Okinawa this week to stage one of his rare public performances, a concert at Garamand Hall in the Ginoza Village Cultural Center.

Anders, who has released only 11 musical albums since his career debut with Eight Pieces in 1988, and who is Spartan with his public programs, is bringing his Swedish colleagues to share his improvisation and jazz standards, as well as his latest release from 2012, Ad Lucem.  Performing with him Saturday evening will be vocalists Mariam Wallentin and Erika Angell, drummer Jan Falt, and Fredrick Ljungkvist on saxophone.

Jormin holds a Professorial post at the Academy of Music and Drama at Gothenburg University.  His love of folk music leads him to combine it with classical music interspersed with folk and jazz, into his compositional approach.

Doors open at Garamand Hall at 6:30 p.m. Saturday for the 7:30 p.m. concert.  Advance tickets are \2,500, and \3,000 at the door. Ginoza Village residents, and those who work in Ginoza, have a discounted \2,000 ticket price. Garamand Hall map is at https://goo.gl/maps/1joDt

The Special Opening Act is Yukito Ara, with Yuko Sato on piano and Tatsuya Kawasaki on guitar.
