Body of last missing Airman found

A combined Japanese Coast Guard–U.S. Air Force rescue and recovery team found the body of the last of the three Airmen, Wednesday, who were swept out to the sea by high waves caused by passing typhoon Phanfone.

The body was found in the ocean a few miles south of the spot where the three went missing. The body of the first of the three was found on the same day, Sunday, as the accident happened, while the second body was recovered on Tuesday.

The third Airman&s body was discovered in the water a few miles south from where the three Airmen were last spotted on the northwest coast of Okinawa.

The release of the Airman’s identity is being withheld pending the next-of-kin notification.

All three were on Okinawa on temporary duty from Robin AFB in Georgia.
