Dr. Suzie Sheehy

A physicist is all pumped up to share interesting thoughts from the spooky quantum world, and the stuff lightning is made off, at a Saturday presentation at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University in Tancha, Onna.

Dr. Suzie Sheehy explains concepts from quantum physics to specifics of plasma and atom smashers with help of everyday stuff from your lunch plate.

Dr. Suzie Sheehy, a physicist from Australia and currently working in the United Kingdom, will explain concepts ranging from quantum physics to plasma to giant atom smashers, as well as all the things that can be found on a food plate.  Sheehy, who hails from Melbourne, Australia, is calling her presentation ‘Eat, Play, Collide’.  She certainly knows the subject; she designs particle accelerators at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in the UK, and has extensive experience giving fun science talks to the public.

The presentation is at 3 p.m. Saturday in the OIST Auditorium.  Admission is free.  Sheehy invites the public to “crack open the food on your plate and find interesting science oozing out everywhere.”  She explains how the tour through quantum physics will show extreme states of matter and gigantic atom smashers, “all with the help of ingredients you might find in your lunch box.”
