Kadena F-15 loses stabilizer part into ocean

The Okinawa Defense Bureau has been informed that a F-15 fighter aircraft based on Kadena Air Base lost a metal part weighing 5.4 kilograms in the ocean during a training mission on Feb. 4th.

The part is cone-shaped, about 23 cm by 15 cm piece that is on the edge of a vertical stabilizer. No damage or injury has been reported.

Five incidents related to F-15s have occurred during the previous year. According to Okinawa Defense Bureau officials, an aircraft maintenance crew noticed the part was missing after the F-15 landed back on Kadena on the 4th.
