Izena Island temperature reaches record high for April

The weather was muggy and hot on Sunday, Apr. 5th throughout Okinawa, and residents of Izena Village on Izena Island, had it especially hot regarding the time of the year.

The temperature in the village reached 30.4 degrees centigrade, or 86.7 Fahrenheit, at 1:28 p.m. setting the record for the highest temperature recorded in April in Okinawa.

Also, on Aguni Island the mercury rose to 28.4 degrees at 2:35 p.m., and other 11 observation posts on Okinawa recorded the highest temperatures of the year.

According to the Okinawa Metrological Observatory, the reason is humid airmass that streamed to Okinawa from south. Similar weather is expected to continue through Tuesday.
