A new fireworks event, the 1st Onna Churaumi Fireworks, on the second day of the 32nd Unna Festival, is the most notable addition to the lineup of events of this annual festival held at the Onna Village Fishing Port grounds on Jul. 18th and 19th.

Much of the entertainment in this year’s festival is aimed at children, although adults certainly have their share of fun, too. The events on Saturday include live fish catching for children of elementary school age, and fruit catching for children from three to preschool age. Eisa performance by members of local junior chambers and other traditional performing arts round up the day that ends with fireworks at 9 p.m.

Sunday’s program concentrates more on live music, as Crystal Heart, Sakura Ishado, Shiori and a band from the Philippines, Mr. Roxy, take stage one after another. The highlight of the festival is the 1st Onna Churaumi Fireworks event that ends Sunday’s activities and promises to be the largest ever in Onna Village. More than 4,000 fireworks will be launched starting at 8:50 p.m.

Festival organizers are also cooking a huge pot of beef soup on both days that is sold at special price starting from noon. Glass bottom boat tours on the nearby bay are also offered on both days at a very reasonable price.

Admission is free for the two-day event, which takes place at https://goo.gl/maps/jHY2S.

The Unna Festival opens at noon on Saturday, Jul. 18, although the official opening ceremony is at 3 p.m., and runs to 9:15 p.m. On Sunday the festival gets under way at 10 a.m. and runs to 9:15 pm.
