New U.S. Consul General in Naha takes post

The United States Consulate General has a new boss as the new consul general took his post on Aug. 18th.

The new consul general is 52-year-old Joel Ehrendreich, who officially took over the job on Aug. 18th. He visited Okinawa Governor Takeshi Onaga at the Prefectural Government Office on Friday.

Ehrendreich talked with Onaga in Japanese saying, “I have a respect of the opinions of the prefecture governor and people of Okinawa. I am willing to cooperate with people of Okinawa and do my best to curb U.S. military-related incidents and accidents.”

Ehrendreich who replaces his predecessor Alftred R. Magleby, is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and has previously worked at U.S. Embassies in the Philippines, Singapore, Tokyo and Australia.
