28 international conferences planned for Okinawa in 2016

The Okinawa Department of the Cabinet Office of the Government of Japan held a government agencies’ liaison conference on Jun. 9th to report and discuss of the 28 international conferences scheduled for Okinawa during the fiscal 2016.

Officials reported that of the 28, seven conferences have already been successfully completed, and the location of the other 20 conferences scheduled to take place through the end of the fiscal, are scheduled to be held at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST), and the venue of only one of the conferences has not been confirmed at this time.

At the meeting, Vice Governor Mitsuo Ageda also mentioned the on-going promotion campaigns of the Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM) and Routes Asia 2017, for which Okinawa is the first Japanese host ever. He said, “I think the concept of MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Convention, & Exhibition) will provide innovation and growth to Okinawa’s tourism industry, so we would like to cooperate with the central government to further promote the concept of MICE.”

Officials at the meeting announced that the Zoological Society of Japan and the Science Council of Japan will hold the 22nd International Congress of Zoology and the 87th meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan at OIST in Onna and the Times building in Naha, Nov. 14 through 19th. 1,100 visitors from 35 countries are expected to attend the events.
