The lunch buffet is sumptuous to say the least, soft drinks and ice cream are included.

As the bright and sunny days of the long, hot Okinawan summer are here, many people head for the shores and beaches around the island. So it’s only natural that the most popular places for a lunch or dinner are restaurants located on the seaside.

The Oceans Buffet & Grill is located next to the shore in the Sunabe Seawall area. The specialty of The Oceans is its popular all-you-can-eat steak dinner, served starting from a very reasonable ¥2,380. It includes as many grilled steaks as you like and are able to eat, and also includes a variety of chicken dishes, taco rice, pasta, curries, soup and salads. Soft drinks are included, and an additional ¥680 buys all beer, cocktails and other alcoholic drinks for a period of an hour.

The restaurant has been a popular dining spot for local and foreign residents in the area, and from last month the Oceans started a lunch-time special.

Tsuyoshi Tanaka, the owner of The Oceans, explains, “We started our all-you-can-eat steak dinners in April this year, and they are really getting popular. All of our customers have been happy because, as you know, local Okinawan people love to eat steaks, not to mention our American neighbors, of course. But we heard a lot of voices from our customers wondering why we were open only night time. They said that if we served lunch also, they would be more happy and satisfied. So, we decided to open for lunch just a couple of weeks ago.”

The Oceans’ lunch buffet does not include grilled steaks, but most of the buffet is the same as in the dinner, and at a much lower price of just ¥980! Of course, soft drinks are included, plus their special soft ice cream.

The buffet is self-service, steaks and grilled chicken are prepared at a separate booth.

The atmosphere in the restaurant in the night time is more resort island style, and each steak ordered is grilled in front of the customer. The price of the dinner includes such finger food as yakitori, chicken wings, and jerked chicken.

The Oceans is open for lunch from 11:00 to 15:00 on weekdays except Mondays and Tuesdays, and 11:00 to 17:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. For the dinner, the hours are from 17:00 to 23:30 from Wednesday through Monday. The last order is at 23:00. The restaurant is closed on Tuesdays, but open at night time on Mondays.

Free parking is available in front of the restaurant and a few more on the roadside. Yen, dollars and major credit cards are accepted.
