Rescuing child’s life earns letters of appreciation to two students

Motobu Police has sent letters of appreciation to Kohei Higa and Ryudo Kato, for their rapid and effective rescue work.

When the two men were swimming off Kouri Beach in Nakijin Village on Aug. 20, they found a weakened six-year child floating on the sea. They rapidly retrieved the child from the sea, and applied CPR with the help of the beach staff and rescued the child’s life.

Both are 20 years old, and currently 3rd grade students at the Regional Medicine Department, Emergency Medical Technician Specialty, at Teikyo Heisei University in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture.

After receiving the letter, Higa stated, “I am honored to receive the letter of appreciation. I’m studying hard at the university to become a good firefighter.” On his part, Kato said “I would like to become a rescue worker in the future.”
