History and making of Okinawan lacquer ware on exhibit at OIST

In order to introduce the public to Okinawan Lacquerware, one of the traditional crafts of Okinawa, and introduce its history and traditional methods of manufacture, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) is organizing an exhibition of the lacquer ware in the OIST Center Building.

The exhibition also has lacquerware decorations and jewelry.

The exhibition will run through Sunday, Oct. 30, and is open daily from 9:00 17:00. Admission to the exhibition is free.

Masayo Tamae and Mizuki Ishigami have planned and produced the exhibition that is sponsored by Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum, Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts (OPUA) and Okinawa Crafts Promotion Center among others.

Okinawa Electric Power Co. is supporting the event.
