Karate Day effort results in new Guinness Book record

A Karate Day Anniversary Demonstration Festival held on Kokusai Street in Naha on Sunday yielded a new record in the Guinness Book of Records, when 3,973 people performed simultaneously the same kata. The precious record of 809 people was reached in India in 2013.

A total of around 4,500 people took part in the effort, but about 500 were disqualified by 100 official observers, who were on hand to make sure that everyone performed as required. Two hours after the performance, Justin Patterson, an official certifying the record for the Guinness Book of Records, announced that the new record has been reached, and congratulated the performers.

After the announcement, the performers, participants and audience broke into cerebrations for the new record.
