Okinawa Prefectural Police arrested a U.S. Navy sailor Sunday after he allegedly failed to report a traffic accident to police.

According to police, 31-year-old Petty Officer 1st Class Chang Wan Son, stationed at Kadena Air Base, was arrested Sunday evening on suspicion of infringement of the road traffic law.

Son reportedly crashed into a taxi making a right turn at an intersection in Kumoji, Naha City, early Sunday morning, and is suspected of running away from the accident scene without reporting the accident to police.

No one was injured in the accident and there were no passengers in the taxi. When questioned, Son reportedly denied driving the car. An eyewitness stated to police that the car that had left the accident scene had a “Y” number plate.
