4-car crash leaves 7-year-old girl dead

A 28-year-old driver attempting to overtake two cars in front of him caused a 4-car crash that left a 7-year-old girl dead Sunday.

According to Ginowan Police, the accident happened about 11:00 on Sunday when a car driven by 28-year-old Masataka Nakamoto attempted to overtake two cars in front of him on a two-way street in Nodake, Ginowan City. When he steered back onto his side of the street after passing the two cars as two other cars were coming against him, his car hit the curb and bounced back crashing head-on into the second car coming on the opposing lane with a family of five riding in the car. After the collision, Nakamoto’s car finally crashed into another car. The car he hit first rear-ended a car ahead.

A 7-year-old girl who was a passenger in the car Nakamoto collided with first hit her head and was taken to a hospital, where she was confirmed dead three hours later. Ginowan Police arrested Nakamoto on the spot on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in death and injury.

Altogether, Nakamoto caused a four-car pile-up and with seven people injured, two of them suffering broken face bones.

Police say the accident site is a straight single-lane road with a good view in both directions.
