700 performers to take part in Mori-no Nigiwai

The 129th Mori no Nigiwai Okinawa 2017 show, a traditional spectacle is scheduled for Jan. 21 and 22 with 700 Okinawan performers taking the stage at Okinawa Convention Center. Two shows will be held on each day at 12:30 and 16:00pm. JTB and JTB Okinawa sponsor the event.

The audience at all four performances will have assigned seating costing ¥2,500/person. Tickets are currently available at all convenience stores, JTB Okinawa and on JTB Okinawa website.

The show includes the Ryukyu Dynasty Parade, the traditional Ryukyu dance, the lion dance (shishimai), karate kata performance, Okinawan folk songs as well as a creative fantasy show “Ryukyu Hanano Mai” that is a fusion of traditional Ryukyu dance, performing folk arts, and ballet.

This year, the show will be held for the 34th year. Tatsuaki Takanoha, the producer of the show, has been involved in Mori-no Nigiwai from the first show.

JTB Okinawa President Kenji Sugimoto thanked people, “some of whom are of the third generation to perform in the show” and thanked them for their participation.

The entrance fee includes a ticket valued at ¥500 that can be used at the “Aji no Nigiwai” food & drink event next door where visitors can enjoy Okinawa soba and sweets.
