Okinawa schools have 71 female principals

According to a human resource survey by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, there were 11,279 female executives in public schools nationwide as of 1 April 2016 that was 196 more than a year before. The rate of women in executive positions in school was 16.1% nationwide that is the highest ever.

In Okinawa the rate was 18.1% that includes 71 principals or schoolmasters, one vice-principal, and 100 assistant principals.

The rate of female executives in schools has been increasing recently, and the Ministry explains that the reason is because, “There are many Boards of Education that actively promote female executives, and allocate them to schools, which are close to their home.”
