Yomitan marine product complex opens at Toya Port

An inauguration ceremony of the new Yomitan local marine product complex was held on Tuesday. Yomitan Village Fishermen’s Association built the facility on the premises of Toya Fishing Port, and it houses a fish auction market, marine product cannery and seafood restaurant. It’s the first of its kind in Okinawa.

Toya Fishing Port is a popular sightseeing spot among foreign tourists with a lot of fresh marine products on sale. Many visitors also enjoy diving tours and rides on glass-bottom boats. However the old fish auction market was more than 25 years old and in need of rebuilding.

The new facility is a 2-story reinforced concrete building with total floor space of 816 square meters. A full view of the East China Sea spreads in front of customers from the restaurant and terrace on the 2nd floor of the building.

The fish auctions on the market space started on Wednesday, the restaurant opens from today (Apr. 13) on a trial basis, and the grand opening of the facility is scheduled for Apr. 29 and 30.
