Okinawa City Ichibangai Mall Merchant Association (Shoutengai Shinkou Kumiai) is scheduled to hold “Tanabata Matsuri,” known as the “Star Festival” in English, from July 4 through 9th at the mall, during which the arcade will be decorated with colorful streamers and strips of fancy papers.

On Friday, starting at 2 p.m. there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the best Star Festival decoration in the mall. A nursery school song concert takes place at 3 p.m. The even is free and open to all.

“Nagashi somen,” cold noodles eaten from a bamboo gutter that water and noodles stream through is served on Sunday at 1 p.m. Nagashi Somen is especially associated with Tanabata, and promises to be a fun event to children. in which adults shoppers are also welcome to participate.
