8th Eco Island Miyakojima Marathon looking for participants

Organizers of the 8th Eco Island Miyakojima Marathon are looking for runners to take part in the race that takes place on Oct. 29th.

The event that consists of three separate races – full, half and 10km races – is sponsored by Miyakojima City, Miyakojima Education Committee, Miyakojima Tourism Association, and Ryukyu Shinpo newspaper.

The starting point of the full and half marathon is Miyakojima Athletics Stadium, while the 10km race starts on Irabu Island. The special feature of each course is running on Irabu Ohashi, the longest toll-free bridge in Japan that is 3,540 meters long.

As of 16 August, 438 people have applied for full, 443 for half, and 187 for 10km races. The participation in the 10km race is limited to 600. The executive committee aims to 3,000 applicants altogether.

To enter the full marathon, men and women runners must be over the age of 19 in both men’s and women’s category, and high school age or older for the half marathon and the 10km road race. High school students require parental consent.
