Yaeyama Police announced Thursday that a couple in their 30’s from Osaka vacationing on Ishigaki Island has been missing since Monday. Their rented car was found near Kabira Bay. Yaeyama Police, Ishigaki Firefighters, and Ishigaki Coast Guard have been conducting a search for the couple.

According to Police, the couple was last seen in a hotel at Kabira, Ishigaki City, around 1:30 p.m. on Monday, and haven’t been heard of since then. Near the bay, where their rented car was found, a couple of their bags and sandals were found left behind.

The couple rented a car on Monday and was supposed to return it Tuesday. The car rental company called police, when they did not return by the due time.

According to Ishigaki Area Meteorological Observatory, the Kabira Bay area had waves about four meters high at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, and a high sea warning had been issued for the whole Yaeyama area.
