Thai national TV to broadcast program about Okinawa

TV program “Tiaoramai Thailand World” by the Thai National Broadcasting is scheduled to feature Okinawa in an episode to be broadcasted in the middle of February 2018.

Princess Namupun, a member of the Thai royal family will stay on Okinawa as a reporter for the program from Dec. 8th to 15th. The program features Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium and beaches. It will introduce Okinawa’s history, culture, and sightseeing spots that are little known in Thailand, and is expected to help attract more Thai tourists to the prefecture.

As regular flights between Bangkok and Naha started in February, the number of Thai tourists to Okinawa has been increasing to about 3,200 this March, which is five times more than during the same period last year.

According to Hideo Ueno, a managing director of Edward Pencil who arranges the program, the main reason for Thai people of becoming interested in Okinawa was “TV program or movies”. “They don’t know much about Okinawa, and that’s why most of Thai tourists stay in Okinawa only for a short period. I hope the TV program will inform Thai people more about Okinawa.”
