30 U.S. military personnel-owned cars smeared with graffiti

About 30 Y-number cars of the U.S. military personnel and walls of their off-base residences were found Sunday smeared with graffiti in Chatan Town and Ginowan City. Okinawa Prefecture Police and Ginowan Police are investigating.

According to Okinawa Prefectural Police, vandals sprayed paint on 27 cars with “Y” number plates, apartment walls and stores in Chatan, and three cars in Ginowan City. The U.S. Military Police reported the incident to Okinawan police Monday morning.

One female victim whose car was sprayed with graffiti in Chatan said, “I’m so sad.” A man cleaning graffiti from his car next to the woman’s remained silent but grim faced.

A fatal accident caused by a U.S. Marine occurred early Sunday morning. A Japanese local resident in Chatan said, “I don’t know who did this, but I wonder whether this has something to do with the accident?”
