Motorcyclists victims in 24 of total 41 fatal traffic accidents

According to Okinawa Prefectural Police, there have been 41 fatal traffic accidents this year in the prefecture as of Nov. 29, and motorcycles have been involved in 24 of them.

This exceeds the death toll in 2009, when the number of deaths involving motorcycle traffic accidents was 21. Okinawa Prefectural Police say traffic accidents tend to increase towards the end of the year, and they call for steps for traffic safety and prevention.

According to Okinawa Prefectural Police Traffic Planning Division, the number of fatal motorcycle accidents this year has increased to about 1.6 times from previous year, and six out of 24 fatalities were teenagers.

In the area under jurisdiction of Ishikawa Police, four people were killed in traffic accidents between Oct. 31 and Nov. 29, prompting Ishikawa Police to declare a state of emergency.

Specifically, police are intensifying their crackdown of drunk driving Okinawa-wide as the year-end party season begins.
