Ryukyu Lantern Festival open at Murasaki Mura

The “Yomitan Yoakari Project – Ruykyu Lantern Festival” opened Saturday at Murasaki Mura theme park in Yomitan. The festival, featuring about 4,000 lanterns lit from 6 to 10 p.m. every day, is scheduled to run through Feb. 25, 2018,.

During the festival, a “Lantern Object Contest” is held to choose the best among 51 handmade lanterns hanging at an exhibit. There are several workshops during the festival where people can make lantern using Japanese “washi” paper and other materials.

Entrance to the festival is ¥600 for adults, ¥500 for junior high and high school, and ¥400 for elementary school students. For details, call Murasaki Mura at 098-958-1111.
