Champion Golden Kings roll out schedule

The Ryukyu Golden Kings, 2011-2012 champions of the Basketball Japan League, are posturing for the new season, announcing both the official schedule and the first pre-season competition.

The Golden Kings unveil their new players –and returning stars including Jeff Newton, Shigeyuki Kinjo, Anthony McHenry, and Naoto Kosuge—at the first pre-season match-up against the Akita Northern Happinets on September 18th at the Okinawa Convention Center. The two squads play at 7:30 p.m., and again at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday the 19th.

The Champions Series continues September 29th and 30th at the Okinawa Convention Center against Anyang Korea Ginseng Corporation. Both games will start at 1 p.m. Golden Kings officials say the team will play two additional pre-season contests before the league action gets under way.

This year’s season of 26 games pits the Golden Kings against each of the other 13 Basketball Japan League teams, each with two contests, on Okinawa’s “home courts”. Games will be played at the Okinawa City Gym, Ginowan City Gym, Naha City Gym and Ishigaki City Gym. The other half of the Golden Kings’ league games will be on the road.

You can see the complete home game schedule in this week’s Japan Update print edition.
