Everyone likes burgers, especially kids.

In the beginning, someone in Ginoza Village Tourism Promotion Section came up with an idea to create a namesake burger for the village to get the attention of the public, and attract more visitors to this little hamlet in the middle part of Okinawa Island. The idea them mushroomed into a burger festival that will see its third incarnation this Sunday.

A small car show is included.

The 3rd Okinawa Burger Festival takes place from 10:00 to 17:00 at Kanna Dam Kohan Park in Ginoza Village, 2015-2 Aza Kanna.

Eleven restaurateurs take part in the Sunday event preparing their best burgers for visitors to judge. They’re Ma-Blue Garden House from Motobu Town; ToTo la Bebe Hamburger, also from Motobu that took the 1st place in the first Ginoza Hamburger Fest in 2013; Hamayaa club from Nago City; . Tenbusu from Ginoza that was voted the best last year; Burger Shop H&S from Onna, which was last year’s runner-up; BONES from Uruma City; 3S café and Rotary Drive Inn UP-KITTY, both from Kadena, Kariyushi Beach Resort Ocean Spa, Zooton’s from Naha and CORPUS CHRISTI, also from Naha.

The event has attracted growing number of visitors every year with about 8,000 people enjoying the event last year. The organizer, the Ginoza Village Tourism Association, expects up o 10,000 people to show up this year t vote for the best burger on Okinawa.

The Ginoza Hamburger Executive Committee has some advice to visitors: “Be ready to have your taste buds blown away with hamburgers like you’ve never tasted before.”

The Ginoza Burger has gained further fame as a local gourmet product to enjoy for visitors who come to watch the annual spring training camp of the Hanshin Tigers pro-baseball team.
